Synthesis is a Root + River hosted webcast featuring nonconformist leaders whose ideas make them — and us — see the world differently.
Our tenth episode features Ron Price and Stacy Ennis, authors of Growing Influence: A Story of How to Lead with Character, Expertise and Impact, which was recently published and is now available. Growing Influence is a modern business fable that engages readers in its emotional and realistic story while offering a practical path to make put leadership into practice in current business environments and life in general. It is inspirational and relatable all at once.
In our visit, we discuss the people and experiences who helped each of us get to where we are. We talked about impact, inside-out and outside-in influence,
Some of our favorite takeaways from our visit with Ron + Stacy:
“Because of my love of theater and because of my relationship with my mom, I moved into this fascination with what made people different and this joy of discovering that difference. I can’t say that I always found joy in other people. I think what I found was joy in their potential.” – Ron
“In that second phase of my leadership journey I recognized that even though a lot of times you live in isolation as a leader, it’s never a solo activity. That you always have people around you. And the more you recognize the importance of those people, the value of those people, the more you can advance your journey.” – Ron
“There’s a tendency to either be outside-in, saying that we need to force the system to change and we need to object in protest and demand change. Or you have another group of people that say, Oh, no, it’s all inside-out. You just have to change who you are. And in reality, I think it’s a bit of both. I think to effect change long term, you have to deal with both dimensions.” — Ron
“The idea that we all have the ability to influence, that’s the broad message [in the book] and … told through a story that was a really meaningful way to get to work on a project.” — Stacy
“We have all the things that we need inside of us, but it’s how we bring that forward and how we show up internally and externally.” — Stacy
“We have a lot of good things happening right now. We have a lot of changes that are occurring, but it’s not enough. And we, we have to open up a positive dialogue that brings men into the conversation that finds a space where we can say, okay, we acknowledge that a problem exists.” — Stacy
